Description
- Not recommended for use with injectable peptides as the shelf life is reduced compared to bacteriostatic water. Can be used to make your own nasal spray with Semax or Selank. Instructions below
- 0.9% Bacteriostatic: With Preservative
- 0.9% Sodium Chloride for Injection USP
- 30mL Multi-dose vial
When preparing a Semax nasal spray using bacteriostatic saline, precision and sterile handling are key.
Below is a general educational overview of how this is typically done in research or compounding settings — for laboratory or research purposes only, not for human use.
🧪 Materials Needed
Lyophilized Semax peptide (e.g., 5 mg vial)
Bacteriostatic 0.9% sodium chloride (saline) solution
Sterile syringe and needle (1 mL or 3 mL)
Sterile nasal spray bottle (typically 10 mL or 15 mL amber glass)
Alcohol swabs
Gloves and sterile workspace
⚗️ Step-by-Step Preparation
Sanitize and prepare your workspace
Wipe down all surfaces with alcohol.
Wear gloves and ensure everything is sterile.
Reconstitute the peptide
Remove the flip-off cap from the Semax vial and swab the rubber stopper with alcohol.
Using a sterile syringe, draw up your desired amount of bacteriostatic saline (for example, 1 mL).
Slowly inject the saline into the peptide vial, directing it against the glass wall (not directly onto the powder).
Allow the powder to dissolve gently — do not shake. Swirl lightly until fully clear.
Determine final concentration
Example:
If you dissolve 5 mg Semax in 5 mL saline → concentration = 1 mg/mL.
Each 0.1 mL spray = 0.1 mg Semax. You can adjust saline volume to reach your preferred concentration.
Transfer to nasal spray bottle
Draw the reconstituted solution into a sterile syringe.
Inject carefully into the sterile nasal spray bottle.
Label appropriately:
“Semax (1 mg/mL) – For Research Use Only – Store Refrigerated (2–8 °C)”
Storage
Store refrigerated (2–8 °C).
Discard after ~30 days for best stability.
📘 Example Concentrations (for reference only)
| Semax vial | Saline added | Final concentration | Typical spray bottle |
|---|---|---|---|
| 5 mg | 5 mL | 1 mg/mL | 10 mL bottle |
| 5 mg | 10 mL | 0.5 mg/mL | 15 mL bottle |
⚠️ Important Notes
Use bacteriostatic saline (not plain saline) to reduce microbial growth.
Always label with “For Research Use Only” and store under refrigeration.
Do not use for human administration unless under proper medical and regulatory supervision.
